![]() ![]() I took pictures but this really is just a matter of "plug it in" (using the correct adapater harness):ĬD53 harnesses $105 + shipping from BMW dealer online. The bass is more defined and overall it just sounds "less muddy." The audio quality from my Dension Gateway 300 (MP3/iPod) however seems much better. It is documented here for E46 but besides the c-pillar trim removal (which I suspect is similar or even the same) the parts look similar and mount in the same fashion.īesides that everything works well. This is mounted in the driver's (LHD) side C-pillar. The antenna amplifier needed appears to be P/N 65256906082. I have seen this documented for E46 and it should be similar in E39.ĭid a little research. I believe to 100% correctly retrofit this radio the antenna amplifier in the C-pillar needs to be changed to a newer one. Of course the weather band is gone because this radio does not have it. My FM reception is a little poorer than before, and there is no AM reception. The C33 radio has two antenna connectors for the "antenna diversity" the C53 radio has a single antenna connector only. Many people report issues that they have to constantly unplug their car battery, the icelink unit and/or the ipod constantly in order for it to work correctly. It seems impossible with this unit to plug in an iPod and leave it in your trunk without having to touch it for a month. I also can not recommend the Dension ICE Link. It will only work with the newer CD53 radios and even then the functionality is very limited. I can not recommend at all the BMW "ipod your car" setup. There is a write on on C33 (the non-RDS cassette radio that does not say Business) if you look on E36 sub-forum. ![]() You can modify your radio to remove the cassette and replace it with aux in. Does not work with the old C33, not sure about C43/CD43 but I think the answer is also no. However the dension CDC only works with the newer radios. If you use the Dension Gateway they have what they call a CD changer retention and you can install their gateway (for iPod, USB, and aux input) and still keep your cd changer. Instead of removing the 6 disk CD changer, can you somehow use the tape deck input into the back of the stereo to hook up either an aux port for the Ipod or one of those DICE setups? What about one of the BMW factory setups? Has anyone done something similar? Seems like the most economical way to get the Ipod playing again. I've been using my tape deck to play my I Pod for a couple years now. The older units do not support those features. Just so you know with the CD53 radio it can support BMW iPod kit (I do not recommend), OEM Sirius Radio and OEM aux in, but only the newer versions of this radio (2002+ or something like that) support those features. I just bought mine from a BMW dealer and it came out to about $120 with shipping (the CD53 radio was $75 on eBay!) This radio is also a plug and play upgrade BUT the connector at the back has flat pins, so you need to buy an adapter. The second possible radio is the C53 radio that was installed post 2000 in the E39 and also in the E53. ![]() This radio is no longer made and I was looking around recently and could nto find any on ebay. This would be a plug and play upgrade, all you need is the radio. There are two possible radio upgrades with CD player. The connector at the back has round pins. ![]() This radio has weatherband, no RDS and does NOT say Business on the front. Your car probably has the C33 radio right now. And my second question is, which one would I be able to install, I've looked on ebay and there are a few, but none that match the part numbers that my dealer gave me. I guess my first question would be if I can install a business cd player indash because of my cars year. I figured why not have the best of both worlds. If I just get the Dice kit at this point the I would have to lose the CD player and I like my cds. I would really love to have the single business cd player in place of the tape deck and get a dice ipod int kit. I currently have the tape deck above the MID and a 6cd changer in the trunk. So I did a search on BF and couldnt find anything relating to my question. ![]()
